NEXT PROGRAM

January 18th 9:30 a.m.

Teresa Duryea Wong- “Native American Indian Quilts: 150
Years of Sewing and Survival” (In the room and on ZOOM)

Presentation- Native American Indian Quilts: 150 Years of Sewing and
Survival•

Teresa will cover a tumultuous period in American Indian culture beginning in
1880, when Native American Indians were learning to adapt. Western missionary
women made their way into the lives of American Indian communities. Native
Indians were taught quilt making skills and provided fabric and supplies. Women
with adept needle skills adopted Western patchwork quilts and made quilts that
reflect their own cultural heritage. Learn how the transference from sewing
buffalo hides and other natural materials to quilting took place and see the
beautiful quilts made in this period.

Teresa loves to write. She has worked as a camera woman for a TV news station
and as a freelance journalist. She became a publisher to a fine-art magazine.
She has traveled the world- 45 countries. She has published 5 quilt history books
and contributes to Curated Quilts, Quilt folk, Quiltcon Magazine and Art Quilt
Quarterly. Teresa also has several honors and has presented at International
Quilt Museums, State Quilt Museums and Quilt Guilds across the US and Canada.
